Admissions Information
The Holmewood School welcomes students aged seven (KS2) to 19 years old with a range of learning differences associated with autism who are of average or above average cognitive ability and those that may have mild cognitive impairments (just below that of typically developing peers).
We are registered for up to 80 students across our sites; the Lower School (KS2 and KS3) is based in Woodside Park and our Upper School (KS4 and Sixth Form) is located in Muswell Hill.
All of our students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which allows families to seek financial funding from their Local Authority however, a statutory statement is not a requirement for admissions.
Applications can be supported by independent assessment reports relevant to the individual. Our school does not discriminate between different social, cultural, ethnic or religious backgrounds, but actively embraces and celebrates these differences.
Our focus is to provide experiences that parallel the mainstream provision with the additional focus on therapeutic programmes and a heavy emphasis on wellbeing, social skills and life skills.

How to get here:
Lower School - Woodside Park Road
By Bus/tube:
Our Lower School site is lucky to be located next to a Northern Line Tube Station, Woodside Park.
By car:
From the North: Exit M25 at Junction 23 and take the A1081 in the direction of Barnet; after 2.6 miles turn right onto Barnet High Street (A1000). Follow this road for 3 miles, then turn right into Woodside Park Road. Cross Woodside Avenue to find THSL 100m further along on the right, next to the Underground station.
From the South: From the A406 North Circular Road take the A1000 Great North Road. Stay on this road, which becomes Ballard’s Lane. Pass through North Finchley and turn left onto Woodside Park Road. Cross Woodside Avenue to find THSL is 100m further along on the right, next to the Underground station.
Parking is not available on site but is permitted on many single yellow lines around the school (except for between 2-3pm). Please read the signs. Woodside Park station and Lodge Lane car parks are also available for a small daily fee.
Upper School - Muswell Hill
By Bus/tube:
For our Upper School, Highgate Station may be the closest, then catch a 43 or 134 bus or walk 15-20 minutes. If arriving from Central London, the W7 bus can be taken from Finsbury Park (Piccadilly and Victoria Lines) and will drop you right outside the school.
By car:
From the North: Exit M25 at Junction 23 and take the A1081 in the direction of Barnet; Turn left onto High St/A1000 and follow for 2.6 miles. Turn left onto Friern Barnet Ln/B550 and continue for 2.1 miles. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Muswell Hill/A504. We are located up a little slip road on the left about 0.3 miles from the roundabout. You will see a white house on the corner and a sign for The Holmewood School.
From the South: From the A406 North Circular Road take the exit towards Muswell Hill/Friern Barnet/B550/Retail Park. At the junction, turn right onto Colney Hatch Ln/B550. Follow the B55o for 1.2 miles. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Muswell Hill/A504. We are located up a little slip road on the left about 0.3 miles from the roundabout. You will see a white house on the corner and a sign for The Holmewood School.
Parking is not available on site but many surrounding roads do not have restrictions. Please read the signs in each road.
Funded Transport
The school works closely with all Local Authorities to support transport for students. Local Authorities that fund transportation provide a service to and from school each day. This can be via a taxi or bus, depending on how the Local Authority organises its service and the number of students attending THSL from any particular borough. Parents will need to liaise with their local authority's transport services directly ensuring that they are clear about which site the young person will attend.
School-day Transport
Using Local Transport Facilities - We are ideally suited for local transport routes into London via the Underground or various bus routes. Having such easy access to a direct route into London enables our students to utilise the fantastic galleries, museums, and rich experiences on our doorstep. We make use of this to enhance curriculum opportunities.
Our local transport facilities also allow us to conduct travel training for those students who need or want to develop these valuable life skills.
Students and family members are each encouraged to apply for an Oyster Card. Application forms can be obtained through local post offices; students between the ages of 16 and 18 will require a school stamp to support their application.
We also encourage families to apply to the National Autistic Society for an Autism Alert card, especially for independent travellers.
The school also has its own 9 seater MPV which is used with students.
