Academic Programmes (Upper)

Much of the upper school curriculum builds on the skills and knowledge acquired from the middle years’ programmes. Students combine their academic learning with work experience in areas that interest them and they are keen to pursue. We create appropriate learning programmes for students matched to their interests, skills, ability and aspirations.

The upper school programmes encourage students depending on their ability to undertake external exams. There is a range of  Edexcel exams that students can enter, which covers both academic and vocational learning routes.

IGCSEs will be offered to students in areas where they are able to tackle the exams confidently. Students who are studying for IGCSE examinations will have small group or individual tuition in order to cover the full syllabus.

In upper school, students can follow a range of opportunities to study BTEC courses in Key Life Skills, Art, Drama and other core subjects.
Students can take Entry Level English, Maths, Science and ICT. We expect every student leaving THSL to have attained this level in foundation skills.
Some students may take a combined approach, and follow a IGCSE course and a vocational course, depending on their abilities and interests.

Exam Results

Students are entered for a variety of exams and results are available on request.

We have links with Barnet College, where students can take an additional range of vocational skills for example construction, catering, hairdressing or beauty. This gives THSL students the opportunity to work part of the week in school and also attend college on day release.

Our school careers advisor works with students and families to advise on careers, work experience and further education. This feeds into key review meeting times, such as at post-14 transition reviews.
