History
The idea to establish The Holmewood School, London (THSL) was originally conceived by our school proprietors, New York based Stephen and Blake Spahn, in conjunction with David Rose, Head of School at the North London International School (NLIS). Their aim was to open a school that catered for the wider needs of some students at NLIS and for those children who did not meet the NLIS academic admissions criteria, but for whom the chance to attend the school would have been of great benefit. With those children in mind, THSL opened in September 2010.
The Holmewood School has been in existence as a school for more than 125 years. It has developed from a private girls’ school to being a traditional preparatory school before being linked to an International Baccalaureate World school and finally evolving as a school for specialised learning. THSL now stands on the site occupied for many years by the NLIS Early Years department which, in July 2010, moved to the NLIS Lower School at Woodside Park, London. Our buildings have been completely renovated to meet the needs of a new generation of pupils.
THSL and NLIS continue to work closely together. We serve both the international and the local communities, ensuring that the school retains a diverse and rich culture. Ours is the only partnership of its kind within the global international schools community. However, our links stretch even further, because we have access to other schools within the Dwight Family of Schools. These include the Dwight School based in Manhattan, New York, and The Dwight International School on Vancouver Island, in western Canada. We also nurture valuable links with schools in Peru, South Korea and China.
