After gaining a Cert in Education from the University of London, I joined Parliament Hill girls’ school in Highgate, as a teacher of both Home Economics and English. After some years in mainstream school, I switched to become a special needs teacher in Hertfordshire, working in a unit for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
I then qualified as a teacher for dyslexia obtaining RSA Cert in Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) before returning to work in Barnet as a hospital teacher of children aged 5 to 16 with short- and long-term medical conditions. After three years I joined one of Hertfordshire’s two secondary SpLD bases, teaching students with specific learning difficulties, training teachers and teaching assistants in SpLD, and advising Hertfordshire schools on dyslexia.
I was born in North London, and have been a school governor in both a primary and a secondary school in Hertfordshire. I’m married with two grown-up children, and enjoy spending time with my family, reading, travel, cookery, and gardening.
