I began my teaching career at an Inner London primary school, where I taught 8 to 11 year olds. I especially loved teaching mathematics; bringing the subject to life and helping children to make sense of what can be a very confusing area was often thrilling and rewarding. I quickly took responsibility for co-ordinating mathematics and history across the school, and even rose to the challenge of directing school festive productions!
I had always enjoyed teaching children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), so I later moved to a specialist school. I gained a postgraduate advanced diploma in SEN and spent 11 years teaching and working with children of all ages, and with a huge variety of special educational needs and learning difficulties. In the 4 years prior to joining THSL, I led and managed the autism provision in a special school, and achieved for the school nationally recognised accreditation from the National Autistic Society
Since the year 2000 I have worked on senior leadership teams, and in 2008 I gained the National Professional Qualification for Headteachers. I joined THSL in April 2010 during its initial set-up, and feel extremely proud and privileged to be part of such an innovative school.
